The exhibition “Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian Orthodox icon” from the founds of the National Kyiv-Pechersk historical and cultural reserve, the State Tretyakov gallery and the National artistic museum of the Republic of Belorussia was unveiled in the Museum of Ukrainian folk decorative art on July, 29th.
The exhibition “Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian Orthodox icon” presents approximately 100 rarities belonging to XIV-XIX centuries – 30 items from each country. Ukrainian part of exhibition is represented by the rarities which are stored on Lavra’s holy ground, where the legendary artist of Kyiv Rus, venerable Alympy, created his masterpieces, and from where the history of our native icon art starts. It is important to mark such great icons as “The Savior on the Throne”, “The Kyiv-Pechersk Assumption of the Virgin” and others which belong to the period of rising of Ukrainian baroque – XVII-XVIII centuries.
“Organizers made an attempt to represent the stages of Ukrainian icon art’s evolution in the exposal” – as Sergey Krolevets, the head of the National Kyiv-Pechersk historical and cultural reserve, announced on the press-conference. He also emphasized the fact that some icons were demonstrated for the first time.
On the press-conference, S.Krolevets thanked the sponsors – the “Donbas Industrial Union” corporation, the museum of national cultural heritage “PlaTar”, the “PlaTar. Memory of Sergey Platonov” charitable found and the “Art-Invest” fund, due to organization and financial support of which the holding of the exhibition in Ukraine and publication of its catalogue became possible.

The PRT communication group has also organized a separate excursion for the mass media representatives into an exposal together with Sergey Krolevets, the head of Kyiv-Pechersk historical and cultural reserve, and presented the catalogue, which includes the reproductions of all exhibited icons, to the journalists.
